We all know that it can take a while to “find” the right thing. And so it is true with Amy Morton’s journey to find the right time and place to open Found, her first eatery in Evanston, after taking a decade long hiatus to start a family. The “of-courses” were always about being welcoming and genuinely hospitable, being locally focused, good to the planet and making a difference…Since opening in November of 2012, Found has been the go-to in Evanston and the North Shore.
Found's "flexitarian menu" is vibrant in flavor as well as color; highlighting local ingredients, the shared plate menu has a strong vegetarian focus. Initially inspired by the bohemianism of Amy’s two favorite literary periods “1920’s Paris and icons of the Beat Generation,” Found has morphed/stepped into its next decade. With Amy’s deep seeded belief that “that all things must change” so too did Found with a fresh perspective: the food and vibe of "Jackie O' meets The Beatles...in India." Where once Found was laden with relics of the 1920’s-1940’s, Found now boasts a cleaner, groovier vibe of “mid-century modern meets a splash of hippy” and a new, beautiful and bright menu from Executive Chef Evan Sumrell.
Found's menu offers a taste for everyone including seasonal flatbreads, fabulous fromage, and locally driven, shared plates, moderately priced. The bar is vibrant with a super groovy kitchen driven craft cocktail program, boutique domestic wine list and growing whiskey program.
Amy found inspiration for the restaurant’s design through her love of entertaining. The space feels as though one is walking through the rooms of a house. Some of Amy’s best décor “finds” include salvaged furniture like old Chicago courthouse benches and even the original “host” phone from Chicago’s legendary Pump Room.
In addition to making Found an incredible place for Evanston neighbors up and down Chicago’s North Shore, Amy’s personal mission is to make a difference in both her community and on the planet.
Found’s social mission, to “hire and train people coming out of homelessness” as a stepping stone to living more independent lives, is fundamental to their philosophy. The restaurant also stays mindful of the environment by repurposing found objects, recycling, composting and supporting Evanston-area farms and businesses whenever possible.
